Applications of Chromatography

Chromatography is also used at various stages of a product’s lifecycle:

  • Initial product screening – early stage stability determination and purity of the product
  • Regulatory phase – developing and validating a stability indicating method so that if your product degrades, that your method is capable of detecting degradation. This method will also be used for stability studies to support your submission
  • Post-marketing approval for QC batch release
  • Batch validation to look at consistency between batches
  • Cleaning validation – to ensure that all equipment used in manufacturing is clean before manufacturing a new product to prevent contamination.
  • Method improvement – as technology advances, it is important to keep your methods updated to benefit from further efficiencies, sensitivity and selectivity.

As Mass Spectrometry is used as a detection method, it is typically combined with chromatography to separate the compound prior to detection and quantification. The applications of mass spectrometry at Broughton Laboratories are as follows:
